Best Time to Visit Bonaire: Month-by-Month Weather, Prices and Crowds
Short version: there isn't a bad month. Bonaire sits 12° north of the equator, outside the hurricane belt, with trade winds that keep 30 °C feeling like 27. Water is 26–29 °C all year and visibility rarely drops below 20 m. The differences between months are about price, crowds, wind and a little rain — not whether you can dive.

Month by month
January – February. Peak season. Cool by Bonaire standards (28 °C days, 24 °C nights), steady wind, dry. This is when North Americans and Dutch "overwinteraars" arrive; villas book out first for these months. If you want a specific villa in January, book it in the summer before.
March – April. Still dry and breezy, slightly warmer. Dia di Rincon (30 April) is the island's biggest cultural festival. Easter is busy with Dutch families.
May – June. The wind starts to ease, which windsurfers notice and everyone else enjoys. A few afternoon showers, mostly short. Prices drop after early May. Our favourite value window.
July – August. Hot (31 °C), humid, and the sea is at its calmest — ideal for nervous snorkelers and children. Dutch summer holidays mean strong demand from the Netherlands even though it's "low season" elsewhere; book ahead if you're coming from Europe.
September – October. Quietest months of the year. Warmest water, least wind, some rain showers building in October. Divers love it: empty sites, flat seas, 30 m visibility. It's also when you'll find the best rates on oceanfront villas.
November – December. Rain showers are more frequent in November (still mostly short, still sunny days), wind returns in December, and the season restarts the week before Christmas. Christmas–New Year is the single most expensive fortnight of the year.
Hurricanes: the question everyone asks
Bonaire is south of the hurricane track. Storms occasionally pass far to the north and bring a day or two of swell on the west coast (which is normally the sheltered side) — that's the extent of it. There is no "hurricane season" to avoid the way there is in the northern Caribbean, and dive shops run year-round. It's the main reason people who've been burned by cancelled trips elsewhere end up here.
Best time for…
- Diving: any month. September–October for the calmest, clearest water and no crowds.

- Windsurfing at Lac Bay: December–July for the most reliable wind; June is the traditional peak.
- Flamingos: year-round, but numbers at the Goto and Pekelmeer ponds are highest January–March.
- Value: May–June and September–early December.

What to pack, whenever you come
Reef-safe sunscreen (the oxybenzone kind is banned here), a rash guard, reef shoes for rocky entries, a light rain shell if you're coming October–December, and a hat that stays on in wind. Leave the wetsuit unless you dive for hours; a shorty is the most anyone uses.
Booking windows
- December–April: 3–6 months ahead for a specific villa; 6–9 months for Christmas.
- May–November: 4–8 weeks is usually fine, except July–August for Dutch guests.
- Long-term: contact us as early as you can — monthly inventory is limited and often re-booked by returning guests.
